I feel like everyone is heading out of town for the New Year. Although part of me wishes we were heading to Hawaii to get the ruck outta this snow, we’re heading to the mountains to embrace it instead. That’s Canadian life for you, and you know what? I’m okay with that. Because vacations for me are really about two things; family & good food.
Whether you’re hopping on a plane to go somewhere of taking a road trip like us, good food and healthy snacks during travel is a must! You know me, I carry snacks when I run out to the grocery store. So there’s NO WAY I’m heading on a trip without trusty snacks in my bag. When Mark and I drive out to our mountain condo, our snack bag includes all sorts of yummy treats. It’s a 3-4 hour drive depending on whether or not Henry needs to stop, and never have we ever stopped on the road to pick up anything to eat. Gas stations are chalk full of candy and chips and the restaurants are your typical burger/greasy dive spots. No thanks!
As many of you know, I’m a green smoothie monster. Henry and I will have one for breakfast at least 3 or 4 times a week! It’s so perfect if you’re having a busy morning and want something energizing but not heavy.
I used to think that breakfast smoothies had to include some sort of protein powder (which are mostly soy, whey, and sucralose laden) all of which I can’t have. So for the longest time, I stayed away from smoothies or would have sugary fruit-based smoothies as snacks here and there. Then I had a baby, and my mornings got busier and busier. I had to come up with a quick and easy solution for a nutritious breakfast and that’s where this insanely delicious and energizing smoothie comes into the picture.
Happy holidays! Like me, you’re probably coming off of the Christmas high of mulled wine and baked treats. And today, we get to let out a huge sigh of holiday relief. Ahhhhhhhhh.
As much as I love Christmas and the festivities leading up to it, I’ve always loved Boxing Day just as much. It’s a day to unwind, sleep in, and spend those gift cards you’ve just received! My absolute favourite thing to do on Boxing Day is to cozy up in my comfies and shop online all damn day and I would love if you joined me.
This Boxing Day, I’m focusing on activewear. A new pair of tights or runners are the greatest motivators to sticking to your fitness goals. Perhaps you have some fitness goals you’re gearing up for in the New Year or have worked your ass off this year and want to treat yourself to a little something.
