Gone Crackers! {healthy paleo + keto crackers}

Why is it that when we walk down the Kids Cereal or Baby Food grocery aisle, just about every product is laden with sugar and ingredients we can’t pronounce? You’d think that food manufacturers would be more concerned about what we’re feeding our kids at such an early age, but look a little closer, and you’ll see that it’s not the case. I’ve always been a big believer in making rather than buying and feel a million times better about feeding my little guy a homemade snack vs a store-bought one. I know that all kids gravitate toward carb-y snacks like crackers and puffs, so I’m sharing my top three favourite (and easy AF) cracker recipes for you and your tot to enjoy. These crackers are keto and paleo friendly, they taste uhhhmazing, and your little ones are sure to love them 🙂

Back to the serious stuff for just a sec…

A recent article uncovers that an alarmingly high amount of baby food tests positive for arsenic and lead. Rice-based baby foods, like puffs, had the highest amount of arsenic. What’s surprising is that this news isn’t so new and these carcinogens have been found in baby food before. The problem is with food regulations, or the lack thereof. Scary stuff right? While we can’t exactly control food regulations, we can stop buying packaged sh*t for our kids.

I know there are some really great clean snacks out there for kids, but they’re hard to come by and usually quite pricey. So why not make your own snacks? Don’t have the time? These recipes will take you less time to make than driving over to the store to buy snacks. No joke.

Keto + Paleo “Cheese” Crackers that taste like Cheez Its®

Instead of 20+ ingredients that no one can pronounce, how about a cracker that’s even more delicious made with just 5 wholesome ingredients? Yes please! This is my go-to snack recipe because it’s SO simple to make and kids devour them! I found this recipe on Whole New Mom and have to thank her for introducing this amazing snack into my life.

[wp-svg-icons icon=”heart-2″ wrap=”i”] Mix the wet and dry ingredients together

[wp-svg-icons icon=”heart-2″ wrap=”i”] Separate into two balls of dough and roll each one between two sheets of parchment paper until they’re about 1/8″ thick

[wp-svg-icons icon=”heart-2″ wrap=”i”] Score the rolled dough with a butter knife to form little squares (for extra aesthetic points, you can use the end of a chopstick to poke holes in the middle)

[wp-svg-icons icon=”heart-2″ wrap=”i”] Sprinkle the top with sea salt

[wp-svg-icons icon=”heart-2″ wrap=”i”] Bake for 12-15 minutes

Note: Depending on your oven, the outer crackers may brown a bit faster than the middle ones, so keep an eye out and remove the already crispy ones while leaving the rest in the oven

Keto + Paleo Tortilla Nacho Chips

K, I have to admit, I make these more for myself than I do for my little guy. They are SO freaking tasty. The seasoning is similar to this Dorito Popcorn recipe but these crackers are a good alternative for toddlers who cannot yet have popcorn or for those avoiding excess carbs. I found this recipe a while back on Paleo Grubs and have made it countless times since then.
