Welcome to my hood! I know that most of you reading this live in Canada so I’m gonna assume you know where Calgary is!? If you’ve never been to this glorious city of ours, it’s pretty notorious for its layout. It’s incredibly organized and efficient – the streets of downtown are numbered and everything is modeled after the grid system. There are four quadrants to the city – NW, SW, NE, and SE. See how creative the city planners were here? 😉 I have always lived in the South West quadrant of the city and it’s been my home for over 10 years now. When we moved into our current house two years ago, we literally moved up the hill and seven minutes from our old house. I love the area and wasn’t willing to look elsewhere. We now live in a community called Coach Hill – an established community built in the 1970s. There are marvelously big trees, great schools, grocery stores, and fitness studios right here. And the best part about living in a mature neighbourhood? The neighbours. They’ve either lived here since the 70s and are original owners or new families like us. So why wouldn’t everyone live here if it were so great? Ummmmm because houses rarely come up for sale here. Whenever there is, I’m always texting my closest friends telling them to get a move on it… seriously!
And now, I’m telling YOU, my closest reader friends, about some spots that have just opened up in our neighbourhood. Trico Homes is building 18 GORGEOUS homes (they are the exclusive builder in this community) on the same street I live on! It’s so rare for a home builder to buy a plot of land and build in an established community. Most of them are waaaaaaay out of town so this is such a rare opportunity. I went to see the showhome last week and almost put down a deposit on a new home – still seriously thinking about it, to be honest! To have a brand new, great quality build in a mature neighbourhood is literally my dream come true. We live in a beautiful home but it was built in the 1970s as I mentioned. There are a ton of renovations we have done, need to do, and are in the process of doing right now. It’s constant updating around here! I should show you some of the bathroom fixtures we still have – shell sinks anyone?!
What I love so much about what Trico has done here is that instead of building ultra-modern infills like we’re seeing all over the city, they’ve actually designed their homes to mirror what is already in Coach Hill. Meaning that these new builds don’t stick out like a sore thumb. I love that they took this into consideration because as a neighbour, you don’t want to feel overshadowed in any way or feel like the community is losing its charm.
Although the styles of the homes are phenomenal (there are seven to choose from btw), the location is really what sells these places. As a resident of Coach Hill for the past two years, I can attest to the amazing location.
Here is what I love most about living in Coach Hill:
The people – like I mentioned before, they are either older couples who have lived here since the inception of the community or new families like us. It feels so safe and friendly.
There are tons of parks within walking distance for the kids and plenty of green space
15-minute walking distance to Strathcona Square where there’s a grocery store, bank, coffee shop & other great amenities
30-minute walk to all the shopping complexes on 85th street – we walk there all the time to go to my favourite brunch place, Brekkie
15-minute drive to the heart of downtown or 40 mins by C-train
There are 2 C-train stations within close proximity: Westbrook and 69th street and many bus stops close by too
Lots of street parking for those big house warming parties you’re gonna throw
We completely fell in love with the showhome. Like, doesn’t it look like we just belong here?! Seriously though… when can we move in?! This particular design is called the Greystone; a two-story home with a developed basement. It’s 2900 sq.ft. with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and tricked out with all the upgrades.
If the show home isn’t your thing or might be too big for you, there are actually seven different models and layouts to choose from. Of course, you have the flexibility to add whichever fixtures or colours you like. These Estate homes start at $800k and that includes the house itself, the specifaction package (countertops, fixtures, ALL the high-end luxury), GST as well as the plot of land. No hidden costs, yo 😉
If you want to come and see the showhome yourself, the Grand Opening is on Saturday, September 7 from 12-4pm. I’ll be there with the kiddos so don’t be surprised when you find Henry jumping on “his” bed.
